RA at Old Town Scottsdale Truthfully, when we were planning the event I was not sure what to expect. Walking into RA at Old Town Scottsdale, I noticed right away the relaxing party atmosphere of this “networking” event and the sheer number of people in attendance. Now, we have all been to one of “those” networking events. You know what I’m talking about, the one where everyone is a suit and every conversation you have lacks authenticity and candor which ends up enervating the whole experience. That was my expectation when I showed up at RA, so imagine my surprise when I noticed that people were engaging each other not as just another potential client/referral/etc, but as interesting, dynamic individuals. Through the experience I heard conversations ranging from the typical small talk to peoples’ excited chatter regarding their personal lives and even an invitation or two following our event. I can’t speak for everyone, but I know I had fun and judging from the vibe I got, I would say it was extremely positive and it did not feel like the typical networking event to me at all.

Overall, there were probably close to 50 people that showed up. The cast of characters were extremely diverse included business owners, engineers, lawyers, bankers, and people from various professional associations such as, the Asian American Journalist Association, the Asian American Bar Association, members of the Chinese American Professional Association and Choo Tay, she is the President of Media88 and serves on the board of directors for the National Association of Women Business Owners.

Personally, I had fun meeting new people and got a few leads from local business owners and brokers who were at the event. All in all, I consider the event to be a success and was able to walk away from it a little better connected and more excited about NAAAP’s ability to help my personal and professional development.
